National (DCA) is closer than Baltimore-Washington (BWI) but the former has to cross the District/downtown so its about the same time-wise during the day. At night, National would be faster travel to Children's

Flying into DCA makes it much easier to avoid needing a rental car. To avoid traffic, fly to DCA and take the yellow line metro to Georgia Ave (may need to switch to green, depending what is happening with metro). From there, take a cab for the last mile. Geographically speaking, the other airports are a long way from the hospital, and a much more complex route.
