I really don't now. We had to put one of our Pitts down.(Cancer) they wanted us to pay a grip. So we went to the pound on 7th street and Hatcher. They charged me $20 plus they gave me a memory poem for my choca.I like to go their more the the Durango pound
They do have specials when the facilities are full. I got my senior pup at no cost last year, but had to pay for vaccinations and micro chipping.
Why are the adoptions so expensive? Often they are very nominal. The animals are usually microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered or spayed as needed before adoption. Those are done without cost to the adopter. Sometimes they are even sent to their new home with necessary medications without cost to the adopter. This makes adoption fee very nominal. Look at adoption fees for rescues. Try getting all those services for a pet from a pet store!
I think its because they have been pressured by the breeders and animal activists to ensure adopters can afford to own their pets since vet care is also very expensive
