I'd look up rescues for a specific breed. Pet Finder is a good place to start.

Be very careful!! They do NOT evaluate their animals properly, and they withild information from dogs that are owner surrenders. All they care about is moving the dogs into a home for money. I would look elsewhere for an animal. Just for your safety

They get animals daily and is first come first serve basis. I got a dog there about a month ago and the process was smooth and easy
