Do I need a balcony seat to be close to the exit

No not at all infact I like the orchestra more

I don't think so. You would be closest to an exit toward the back of the theatre, but not necessarily balcony and definitely not one of the upper balconies. I imagine there are exits on the sides of the building, too, but I have not used them.
