You may want to try a Coast Guard recruiting office they should have more info than what you're trying to get now ....or call the nearest recruiting office I believe that should be your best bet and good luck
My Father joined the U.S. Coast Guard in October, 1941 He was issued a 6 Digit Serial Number. I believe that the Numbering process changed as they got the GREAT INFLUX Of VOLUNTEERS for Duty after Pearl Harbor !
I have a letter from 1949 and it came from ft Benning Georgia 21evac from a pfc I think these numbers may mean something 15 283 683 I don't know what happened to the person but it seemed important
