As long as you want really, they will let you look and ask as many questions as you'd like
They offered to let us stay in there as long as we wanted. The guided tour portion was about 20 minutes though. The indoor area is not terribly large.
You can go through the main exhibit as many time as you want also you can stay and ask as many questions as you are comfortable with.
It is a short walk from the visitor center to the dig building. Once reaching the dig building, the tour probably last 45 minutes. The ranger told us we could stay and look around as long as we'd like. We could also ask questions as long as she stayed. The building is not very big, and you see the majority of everything you'd want to during the rangers informational tour. You probably wouldn't spend much more than an hour unless you had a lot of questions after.
