There was a name contest that many people had submitted their ideas. The owners then chose their favorite of all the submissions .
Everyone's said that name is extremely ridiculous .
The city was asked to vote on it but I think the owners picked the name they liked.

The new owners decided it was time for a change. They chose the name.
Out of town owners and out of town marketing group. Trust me, any local referring to a King Cake as a baby cake would have their grandparents, aunts and uncles correct them long before they were old enough for school where they would be laughed at and ridiculed. Baby Cakes is pure out of town confusion about the real name of King Cakes. I hear the other runner up names were Square Donuts, Trolleys, Sno-Cones, Not Nude Beef and Gravy Sub, and Giant Hamburger Bun with Italian Meats, Cheeses, and Olives.
I believe it was a"name the team" contest.
