Because an owner from the North East and a marketing team from California do not know Louisiana venacular. And they don't care about Louisiana heritage and culture. So they went with a name that made generations of locals wonder what they were thinking, because they would never call a King Cake a baby cake. If they really wanted an odd, strange, funny name that only locals would get there's plenty to choose from.
👶🏼🍰 = 👶🏼💩
No not Nola thing
Actually, the name Baby Cakes was a name that won the team naming contest. Many of the submissions were for King Cakes, but as you might imagine, with licensing and copyrights the team had to change it up a bit. So, knowing that this region is known for calling people “baby” as a term of endearment as well as it being the only place to understand what a king cake is, the name was born. The draw to the king cake and incorporating it in the name is the messaging behind Mardi Gras season and the King Cake. Y’all come together to enjoy King Cake and the person who finds the baby has to buy the next king cake, which will bring y’all together once again to enjoy the cake and each other. That’s the very same idea of minor league baseball. They bring you together to have a good time and hope you come back again.
“Babycakes” is an OOOOOLD term of endearment from the 1920s though the 1950s. My grandparents and Mom used it when I was a little kid. Nobody uses it now. I’d believe it if this was the fan-submitted top pick for a name, but it’s outmoded and that’s why it sounds weird.
What is a bady cake
I heard it was done to decrease the fan attendance as their contract to be here comes to an end. Reason being they will try to get a what I think is called a south coast conference team AA I believe.
