It will be unbelievably expensive. They have this push going for people to buy pet insurance. So they are raking everyone that goes in over the coals. They figure they will give people an unbelievably awful financial burden. Then they get them to buy pet insurance under duress. Your better off finding a reputable vet that actually cares about animals. Cause this place only cares how much you care about your pet because thats how they can get you for thousands.
Jaaa C's answer is not possible. Pet insurances will not cover a pre-existing condition - and they certainly are not going to cover a procedure that was done 'on the same day' as the insurance was purchased. Most insurance carriers have a 10 or 15 day window before the policy goes into effect - so the scenario that Jaaa painted is bunk. Also, most insurance companies require an examination by a vet fairly early on. I went to NE for x-rays and bioposy for my dog. Never once was insurance mentioned or asked about. I did have pet insurance but they never asked about it (I pay the bill then submit it to the insurance company for reimbursement up to the policy limits). NE gave me an estimate before starting the procedure - which had to be agreed to and paid 50% of it. I felt the price was fair. The actual price came in a few hundred dollars less than the estimate. I was never pressured to have the procedure performed and I found the staff to be pleasant and caring.
