Yes, according to waiter, local folklore, and internet.
The original Lombardi's opened in 1905 but closed in 1984. That was, according to many, among the first pizzerias in the country. It is thought that the very first pizzerias popped up before that, around the 1890s, but none survive until today, let alone until the 1980s. The current Lombardi's was reopened by the original owner's grandson 10 years after the original's closing. If you want to get technical about it, 1994 is when the current restaurant opened, but don't tell them I told you. The title of longest continuously operated pizzeria belongs to Papa's Tomato Pies in Trenton, New Jersey, opened in 1912.
It was delicious regardless if it is the first pizza business. Would recommend!
Well according to Google it is the first ever pizzeria in the US (opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi) They also pride themselves on being the first pizzeria in the US at first I didn't believe it but after a quick Google supposedly so
No its not .
Yes
Went there last month. Worst pizza I had considering it to be the first pizzeria in NYC. Just more of a tourist attraction. There are more better pizzerias around NYC. I heard John's is way better.
Yes! Its also got a great authentic atmosphere!
Yes everyone says so!
According to google and waitress, yes.
Google for a correct answer, but my guess would be no
Went to Lombardi's in Naples. The one on Spring St is a child of the one in Napoli. The one in Napoli claimed to be the first pizzeria in the history of the world. The pizza was great, the staff was great - if you are ever in Napoli, go!
Yes, indeed the first pizza place!
