I have an auto dealership taking longer than told to complete a jobs, so that a person has to pay for a rental from them. Is there anything that can be done?

I am asking for my 74 yr old mother. I am sure it is not in writing. I will talk to her about filing a formal complaint. She is not the first person that this has happened to at this dealership.
