I am coming to the area soon and am looking for a place near my hotel to get some simple food/snacks to have in the room. Do they sell things like protein shakes/breakfast bars, chips, etc.?

Yes more so on the healthy side though. You can still find some junk food there but you really gotta look for it. Im not sure if you're from Texas or familiar to H-E-B but their brand name dorito chips are good. Between Houston and Zarzamora st they have a regular H-E-B where they sale a lot more items. Its a few miles away from the marketside H-E-B but the selection is better and cheaper.
