First if your planning on carrying a handgun on a bus ,car you can not open carry that weapon! You need a CPL for that, also open carry does have restrictions I did it for 8 yrs in Michigan before getting a concealed carry liscence. You will need to get a purchase permit to buy a gun without a CPL. Classes for CPL last about 8 hrs through action impact, 70$ + 50 to 100 rounds of ur desired ammo. Gun prices vary 9mm between 375$ - 500$ 40cal 450$-575$ 45cal 500$+ Once you pass the CPL range test in Wayne county you bring your paperwork to the county sheriff's office file paperwork and pay 120$ . Your CPL. Liscence will come in the mail about 6-8 weeks later. ***BEFORE YOU TAKE THE CLASS**" make sure this is what u want to do go shoot on a range , saying u want this and actually doing it and abiding by the rules and laws and knowing when/ when not to shoot is a different story. ***Also note*** if you have a domestic violence charge, ur ineligible for this!
You do NOT need a CPL before purchasing or carrying a firearm. Open carry is legal in the state of Michigan. The CPL is exactly what it says, a Concealed Pistol License. There are many restrictions without the CPL however, so it is highly recommended that you get it. The staff at Action Impact are very knowledgeable and can answer all your questions.
Steve you have to remember there are catches to open carry so the person has to be extremely careful on the use of open carry .
First you need a cpl before you can carry a firearm...classes are usually 69.00 then you need to take your certification to the sheriffs office for processing another 120.00 as I recall...whole process can take 6 to 8 weeks..
