You can file in small claims court if it's less than $5k. It's a one sheet form with a $20 fee to file. If you win, the filing fee is reimbursed by the other party.

Go to the court and ask the clerk. They will give you the info without asking you for any fees or anything. If you want to sue, depending on the amount owed, you will have to pay a fee and write a complaint.the complaint can be done on a form provided by the clerk as well
