The palm was meant to whip people...that is the reason
The palms represented the large crowd that cried Hosanna!, they laid out the branches of palm trees as Jesus entered Jerusalem. Within a few days, the same crowd had turned and cried “Crucify!” when Pilate offered to release Jesus or Barabbas. Some years ago we used to pass out palms at FBCG, but Pastor and leadership decided we no longer wanted to be associated as a part of the crowd that sways with public opinion. (Matthew 21 and 27)
