How come there are so many cash registers, but not enough cashiers? I'm genuinely curious, not trying to be a troll.

It all depends on a persons availability as to when they can work, and how everyone's schedule revolves around each other. Too many cashier's, and at times you might be paying them to be standing on slow days. It just really lands down also on the amount of hours they get. Plus, some registers are a hassle to deal with as some can be crashing due to a system error so there are always others to choose from
