How is earned kohl's cash for a purchase adjusted when an item is returned?

They give you back what you paid in Kohls cash with another Kohls cash slip and you have to use it with in like 30 days

Let's say you buy 2 items that add up to $50 and you get $10 Kohls cash. If you return one of those items then the total amount you would have paid would be under $50 and you wouldn't have earned that Kohls cash in the first place so it takes it away or if you used it it will take $10 off your return.
