Most times, I see that, it's because patrons are not friendly and look down on the worker's
When they first opened up they were friendly, I say it has to do with the store manager running the store and the other managers running the store. WalMart is known for hiring in managers who are inexperienced in addition if things do not go right take it out on their employees. I can see the inexperience of management show in some departments on how messy they are and it could take days before they are corrected. You also have to take into account if you are talking to a young kid who can't wait to get out of there or someone who reflects that a job is a job and makes the best of it. I personally wouldn't say just WalMart employees are disgruntled, you could check other retail positions too, they may not show it as much but they are there. Retail can for some people be trying and those shouldn't be in retail. I worked retail 20+ years and yes there were times that there were I could tear my hair out, but I enjoyed the customer interactions helping people locate specific items, etc.
It's all about what the management allows employees to do..and could be that there paid low wages and no perks for working there..if employees are not happy, the customer's sure as hell not gonna be happy either...it's the same at my job,new employer bought our building and we get no Christmas bonus..our insurance premium went up $50 more,we no longer have time and a half for working a holiday we get one extra day paid straight time for holiday..we can only were burgundy scrubs...we can no longer wait for our ride in front lobby we have to go back to our break room or stand outside..we no longer have free life insurance employees have to pay for there own..we have to pay full price for our meals. And there's no heat in our break room feels like we're outside..need I say more?๐ companies these days expect a smile on our faces when there killing our pockets so why would anyone be friendly with customer's under these conditions?so next time keep that in mind๐๐
As a Department Manager, of one of the most customer used areas, the customers can be very short and demanding. Thankfully, they are few and far in between. I've actually received an award for my exceptional customer service. I had a positive interaction with a secret shopper four months ago. Hopefully, the new pay scale and bonuses will create a better shopper experience overall.
Because they are understaffed and underpaid working almost full time and still need to rely on welfare to make ends meat.
