How do I add borders around my crazy quilt squares when the squares are themselves have a muslin backing making them 2 layers thick . Does the sashing need to be 2 layers thick too ??

Your blocks should have three layers, top, back and batting. If the reason you have two layers because the muslin is stabilizing , than you do not have to add muslin for the borders. Gene
