Can someone tell me why my wife had to bag her own groceries while the cashier (guy) just watched, all the while other customers are waiting to get their stuff checked out?

I never had that problem because I use the self check out.....I'm a cashier at a gas station and sometimes my customers don't want me to touch there stuff understandable.....but I usually bag there items.....hopefully that helps....maybe they were told to do that also .....

If it is a Covid-19 thing, then how is bagging any different than ringing the items up? If it is because of the bags, then I have to ask why the cashier can't put on a pair of disposable gloves? I wonder if this is just a case of laziness and a lack of supervision??

I always try to use the self-checkout lane when shopping at S&S... that way I can bag my own groceries the way I want & like them to be bagged... hence no broken eggs and/or smushed bread, fruits... but we all have our own comfort levels.
