They are a bit pricier but you can ask your vet for coupons or maybe a slight discount if you buy multiple packs. You need meds that kill fleas and their eggs. Fleas hatch every 3 weeks, so one treatment will not suffice. In addition, you may want to purchase diotomaceous (spelling?) earth. It is a powder you spread safely in your home. Vacuum daily, twice if you can. Wash everything. Make sure all pets are treated at the same time (ask your vet about flea meds for kittens or puppies, if you have any. If you want to get rid of the fleas, you can. It will take a little extra money and work but you can do it. There are also shots that last 3 months and pills you can administer monthly. Call your vet or call your local spca or humane society and ask if they have discount flea meds or coupons. If they dont they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Yes take your cat to the vet and ask for a flea dip. You can also buy a dip solution if they supply at store. I own dogs but that's what I would do, along with bombing the house and washing cats bed. Good luck.
