Imagine cutting your fingers off just above the nail, at that knuckle. That's what you would be doing. Loss of touch would be the least of your issues.
Everyone is right. Its a serious procedure. Why not try the caps & do the procedure as a last resort. .
I only have dogs so I have no idea
An invasive procedure is one that requires cutting, puncturing, or entering the body in some manner. Given that declawing entails cutting off the tips of the cat's paws, it would be considered invasive. This procedure is indeed outlawed in many European countries due to it being medically unnecessary and inhumane. Cat owners who are looking to protect their furniture from scratches should consider SoftPaws, which are caps that can be placed on the claws, or simply trimming the claws frequently.
I dont know how invasive it would be to declaw your cat but at 2 i think i would rethink the idea. They has caps that you can get on your cat that would not be painful at all
+DestineeMyres. Thank you so much for your help. I've decided NOT to have my Sadie declawed AS your answer cleared up a few concerns for me. I knew it was an invasive proceedure but I had no idea it was a mutilating one. Again I thank YOU for helping me decide. Sadie says thank you as well!
It is a pretty serious surgery. It is outlawed in Europe. We have three cats and all three are declawed.
