You don't need a gold membership to add three other people for roadside service.
You need to be a triple A member but you do not need to be insured by them. You can purchase a membership for a one time fee of 40ish depending on which level you pick. I would go with the gold membership give you DMV access and provides three free road side services. Which include towing, gas, tire, lockout and battery.
Of course you pay to have the special privileges and not stand in line so if you don't have a AAA card period then get one
