Since I am a USPS mailman, I can answer that Staples will only take passport photos. The rest of the process must be completed at the Post Office. My office in Naugatuck will also take the necessary photos AND provide the necessary paperwork to complete the process. I suspect that the photo cost is cheaper outside of the Post Office, but the USPS essentially provides one stop shopping for passports. Appointments are required there but probably not at Staples.
They only take pics. You can generally finish by mail. If you need in person service, I believe the nearest passport service center is in Stamford by appointment only.
I know they take the passport pictures, I don’t think they do the rest of the process.
