The coca cola freestyle dispensers run off of 3 seperate things; the soda flavor, added flavoring ( like cherry, vanilla, etc. if applicable), and the syrup. If it runs out of high fructose corn syrup (for regular soda) or non-nutritive sweetener (for diet/sugar free) then multiple sodas will "run out"
