Bicycles, like shoes, are a very personal product. Nothing takes the place of coming in to the store and trying out a few different options.
We agree with Ken - there are a lot of factors that can go into your decision. If you come by the shop, we can talk with you about what type of bike will best fit your body, your riding style, and budget. You'll also be able to test ride a variety of different styles and brands.
Purchasing my daughter's bike we came in to test ride nearby on a couple different models. The staff was very nice, helpful but not pushy. We needed help with sizing since she had grown a lot since her last bike. We ended up getting a Marin model that fits her well, gives her room to grow, and was within our budget for a quality bicycle. I've been really happy with how well it's put together but you might like a different brand.
