Scoma’s has no authority to shut down any business and did not shut down the FV Pioneer. Scoma’s has always supported the fishing industry and retail fish sales. And, when asked in 2017, we agreed to allow the use of our leased space, at no cost to the Pioneer, on the pier, for early morning fish sales. During this challenging time, we have been operating with limited services and with the new city guidelines for outdoor dining hope to return as many of our longtime union workers as soon as possible. We need to use our leased space in order to operate food for pickup, delivery and outdoor seating in the very near future. We have made several verbal and written requests to the Pioneer to work together to allow both businesses to survive. We have been unfairly and wrongly accused by the Pioneer of shutting their business down when, in reality, the Port is honoring our lease agreement. That's terrible. It isn't about competition. People are staying at home and cooking. I prefer to buy from Pioneer Seafoods as i get more for my buck. I have been to Scoma's plenty of times and it is for special occasions because i couldn't justify the price going there regularly.
