Petsmart doesn't adopt out dogs. They do have some local shelters bring dogs in to adopt out, but your odds of finding a pure bred retriever are essentially 0%. Your best bet would be to look on craigslist and use Google to find breeders. They are expensive dogs and they only get more expensive if they are papered. My girlfriend and I got one on craigslist that is pure bred, but unpapered for $800. AKC papered are closer to $1200-$1500
I agree with Jake. No formal adoptions, only rescue orgs have occassional adoption clinics. Good Luck in your search for FurBaby.
