We are a retired Military family and we are reaching out to any family that is in need of help during this government shut down. We would like to help with groceries or with whatever is needed if we can. Please advise who to contact.

I can't advise you to donate because I am active duty Coast Guard, but I can tell you that a few people have dropped off diapers and food at the station in Newport. There are numerous units in the area though. I'm sure they've all be receiving donations as well. The Coast Guard Academy in New London also has a pantry for Coasties to visit if they need food. I believe most of what is there has been donated. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for being so kind.

We offered 3 pounds hamburger with cheese and rolls to Coast Guard from Aquidneck Meat and Provisions. Posted on Facebook and did not get many until we called the station at Castle Hill and spoke to Manager on Duty and now we have served over 50 Coasties. One sent us an adorable photo of their very young son enjoying the burger to thank us. It was heart warming.
