Is it possible that when I spend a ton of money on gift cards, that the cashier doesn't have to rip the back to shreds? They are gifts and look horrible.

They have to get too the bar code to activate it. They are also pressed for time to process your grocery order. May I suggest that you peel back the strip neatly for yourself. That will save both of you time and your package.

In order for the cashiers to ring up your groceries as well as the gift cards, they do have to be able to get to the bar codes on the back of the gift cards. Whenever I buy gift cards, I always take the strip off the back myself and when I'm checking out, I inform the cashier that I took the strip off so that the gift card wouldn't look like it had been improperly handled. Or if I haven't taken the strip off, I ask the cashier to (1) please take it off gently because it's a gift or (2) I take the strip off while checking out and then ring the cards up separate from the groceries. This is just a suggestion based on my own personal experience, Winona Kay.

If its important let the manager know and you can exchange it for something more to your liking. The managers are quite fair and will try to accommodate you as best they can.
