If you are 17 years old and 1 party have an ID but the other party doesn’t can I still get in for a Rated R Movie or do the parent need to purchase the tickets

Whenever I went to R rated movies as a teen my mom had to buy the ticket but didn't have to go into the theatre and watch it with me

My daughter's aunt (20 years old) was trying to buy tickets for them but they said the parent has to b there. So then I tried buying the tickets but supposedly the policy was that the child has to b with the parent watching the movie. Smh.. Unsatisfied about that policy.
