Jeff is a long time skater and will be more than happy to help. I used to longboard casually and from what you said you're looking at a longboard of the "cruiser" variety. Jeff can help you assemble the board as to whether you want a stiff board for stability, if you want it to be more responsive and agile, how fast you want it to roll... etc. You're in good hands at Uncle Funky's.
Tell them exactly what you stated here. They will set you up with the exact board you need.
Ask in the shop. The owner was there when I visited the shop. He skates himself. I didn't know anything about boards and he was great help picking a board for my son :)
