You can visit the store free and see all products, but if you need to buy any even a single tissue paper you have to be a member.
You are required to have a membership in order to shop. However, there are a few exceptions.. food court, eye exams, and pharmacy - the latter being due to Federal regulations on prescription drugs. Just tell the attendant at the entrance that you are going to the pharmacy and you will be free to browse so you can see inventory selection and pricing, which I believe is your intent in order to determine if a membership will fit your family's needs. You can also gain access via the membership counter which is located inside the exit (so is the food court). Keep in mind that memberships are fully refundable at any time if you are dissatisfied.. so, you can always purchase a membership, give it an test drive and if you find that it's not a good fit for your family then you can always get a full refund.
