I take all my animals to dr. Cohen. She's the best there is. I take my dog Logan my cat tiger a my other cat Bongo. Top-notch. If you can't get ahold of her then call affiliated veterinarians a 24-hour ER for pets in Gainesville.
I would say call the animal hospital. Dogs have a high pain threshold and you can tell when they are experiencing discomfort. Signs would be constant grooming, more vocal, not eating (huge sign), aggression, heavy panting, less movement, odd behavior changes, lack of sleep or frequently sleeping depending on the issue, major accidents, which can be potty accidents.
Depends on what he's hurting from. Dr. Cohen will talk to you to see what has happened. With our dog he takes a human drug called gavapitin. It's for inflammation. You can get that with a script at CVS. DR. COHEN has been taking care of our children forever. 454-1001
