On my second pixel phone...first one battery overheated, second drops calls, calls fade on regular basis. Are they just inferior phones or just my bad luck?

I would stop in to talk to them about it. You could possibly make a warranty claim, insurance claim or they may be able to repair it. The staff is very helpful here, I'm sure they'll do their best to resolve your issues!
