You are not an Italian citizen simply by being born in Italy. You must first determine if you qualify for (or already have) Italian citizenship. If you do qualify, you can apply to have your citizenship recognized, then you can apply for a passport. If you were born to parents who were Italian citizens and they registered your birth with Italy, you are already a citizen but you will need to do some work with the consulate first before you can get an Italian passport.

If you have your birth certificate from Italy I guess is all you need to send, you must register first at the consulate. Check website for info.
