Yes , to cover 800 square feet of space, you need 800 square feet of carpet. At least if your talking about one area that is generally rectangular-shaped. If your area is distributed between two or more distinct sub-areas, or if your area is oblong, say circular, oval or triangular, then you might need somewhat more than 800 square feet of carpet to allow for trimming the carpet to fit the particular areas your trying to cover.
