The best place to get a small dog is at the animal shelter you just tell them what you want as far as a dog like for example my boyfriend bought me a boy dog for my early birthday present last year I told the staff at the animal shelter I want a male dog and I want a dog who is at least 5years old or older and I want a small dog all the animals at the animal shelters are rescue they need a home plus it is cheaper at the animal shelters then at a pet store plus at the animal shelters they are more honest then at a pet store or etc because when I got my boy dog Max they told me he has a heart murmur but overall he is healthy

You can try your local shelters, sometimes petco's have events with dog adoptions. But as a new puppy owner please do your research on the bread that you would want and that it suits the needs your looking for(that their petition with kids,that it hypoallergenic if you need it,the size,ect), and also keep in mind what I was told about adopting a n older dog it might have been patients with other kids but maybe not yours. I also seen organizations around the valley I don't remember what is it called but theirs a place next to San Fernando mission cemetery that I saw it said adoption. Good luck
