They do not have the ability to deal with dementia patients. My mom was not able to sleep as she was placed next to the very loud nurses station. They gave her double her hypertensive meds . They were not able to even figure out she had a UTI. My brother and sister visited her and could smell the terrible odor when she did urinate. I had to call from out of state to request a urine test. She lost 20 pounds in the 1 month she was there as she could not swallow and needed a pureed diet. I was there and they gave her a hot dog bun with chopped meat. She had terrible reflux and would spit out meds that were not ground to powder . I again had to call from out of state and demand she be put on omeprazole. The final insult were her gums were fiery red as no one was brushing her teeth. They said she did not want to bathe. The reason she would belch so much is because they were giving her liquid potassium and/or capsules opened. She stopped belching one week after I assumed care.
Yes, they take Medicare and Medicare/Medi-Cal but they do not have a locked facility for dementia patients. Some of the patients have obvious issues, but it isn't specifically a facility for dementia.
