Depends on when you go and how long you want to wait. There is a lot to do in the midway while you wait, so it is not just queued in a line. There is a ton to entertain you while you wait. However if you want to save an hour (maybe more on a super busy night) then the extra money for the fast pass may be worth it. Either way, the price is worth what you get. You can easily spend 3-4 hours enjoying the environment.
I would just use general admission bc there are attractions, food & a band to see while you wait to go through.
Josh Weaver said it perfect. Only thing i can add is get there early to watch the monster parade at the beginning of the night. And if you are there in time to see it you wont need the fast passes because you will only have enough time to run through the midway before your ticket is called.
