My Disney app works with your ticket (you register it in there). You can select up to three selections from the same park (only one park per day for first three selections). Annual Passholders can do this 7 or so days in advance, ticket holders 30 days in advance, and on site resort guests 60 days in advance of your trip. Once you use your first three fast passes, you can add one at a time from any park. Use it, get another. At the attraction, there is a stand by line and a fast pass line. Fast passes are used by scanning your admission card or magic band. It can only be used by the person the fast pass is assigned to, and their ticket/ band must be the same used for admission that day. Disney has been cracking down on misuse of fast passes. Including locking down the admission pass for someone who's card/ band was used while they were not present.
Add an app called my Disney experience. Register, pick your icon, look for fast pass. This can be booked in advance. Some maybe taken, it should tell you. You can book 3 for the same park. When the times expire for the 3, you are allowed to add 3 more.
It reserves a time for you and you return at that time and enter in the FASTPASS line entrance. You can get FASTPASSES either through the My Disney experience app or inside the park from a Cast Member (there are specific cast members for this).
As stated excellently below, but is a must to ride most popular rides. If on the off chance you have a fast pass holder in your group who is too young or does not want to ride certain popular rides .book them on anyway. Then you ride with your band the get there band and ride again. Both fast passes used within allotted time. Result
Ideally, you can download the app to your handheld device, co next your ticket to it, then you can opt for fast pass from your phone. Once you select fast pass to an attraction, you show up at the specified time, and go to the front of the line.
