You're going to have to bring your grandfather's DD214. It's not so easy to join. I am a veteran a d cannot join, I only know about the 214 from going in with my uncle

The VFW is the hardest to join for one reason. The VETERAN of a " FOREIGN WAR " part. His DD214 will reflect what era war or conflict he was involved in. May need death cert also, need to have proof of blood line. Good luck darlin.. Else join amvets or the legion, your family member just needs to have graduated boot camp.

Yes, you need the 214 of a mediate relative. Bring a copy of it to the VFW and ask for the commander and he will give you full details on what to do.
