In my brief visit, it seemed walk ins were not welcome or even possible. We were not allowed to walk in. Seems you have to reserve a petting time.
Off times you have a better chance
If there is space available. But it's a small location (old, DC buildings, you know) and fills up fast. I recommend at least checking online for availability first if not reserving the space in advance.
