Closed toe shoes are the best, better yet sneakers especially ones that you don't mind getting dirty

Nah, it's better to wear closed toe shoes, sneakers or old shoes that can handle getting funky and dirty from the paint (it's made of starch so it will wash out) but even if you are playing lazer tag, it's in the same space where paintball happens, so whether you like it or not, you're going to get dirty. Keep your feet protected! Safety first.
Yes I guess you could do flip flops but I would not recommend
