There's a few requirements necessary to get your son driving. You need: The title for the car that needs to be transferred Valid driver's license for the son Insurance for the son already on the vehicle BEFORE you go to the DMV and sign the title over. Make sure there are no Liens on the vehicle. On the title for purchase amount you can write gift or $0.00 dollars. If you sell the car for any given amount you will have to pay the 6.5% tax. Get your title and sign it over to him. He has to go to the DMV and register it, get ins, new plates etc. If he's on your ins. and you want him off call your ins co.
