Returning items at Walmart used to be transparent...before people learned to use items over a period of a few days and return them, or even worse, shoplift the item, then return it the next day for cash or credit that they used to buy something they could sell on Craigslist. Now days you are limited to 30 days for electronics, 90 days for hard goods. Items with receipts and you get back the way you pay for something. Without, you are limited to 3 items over 1 year, and you receive a gift card.
