If you don't have your wdw app set up I would definitely do that, it will walk you through everything and tye fast passes used to be free but I think you need to purchase them now, its just a seperate quicker line. When we were there last yr though rise of the resistance was being booked similair to reservation, but the app will let you do everything that needs to be done
It's worth the extra $ if you've never been on this ride. I say ride but this is more of an experience. Get the app, set up your Genie+ experience and have fun.

Rise of the Resistance is an Individual Attraction Selection. Meaning, it's an a la carte lightning lane purchase. Typically around $15/per person to ride one time. In order to successfully purchase as only so many are sold each day, you need to purchase at 7am (if staying at a Disney resort) or at park opening from your My Disney Experience App. Otherwise, use the standby line. Late afternoons tend to be slightly less crowded. 😅
Paid fast pass
A lightning pass cost $15/person and it helps you skip the queue for 3different rides/ events. Wait times couldbe 30mins or more but you have to buy the pass ahead of your visit.
$15 a day (per person) and you can jump the queue. However, it's at set times depending on how busy it is and you can only book the next ride after you have finished riding the first (or 3 hours have passed) you can book your time at 00:01 of the day you have the pass. Rise of the Resistance if you get there early or stay late you will only queue 30/40mins so personally we didn't bother and rode it one day early (40mins) and the other day late (25mins)

Its replaced the old fast pass, but actually it can cause problems when it's busy because you may have to wait and maybe can't get the time you want. And it's expensive. We didn't bother, yeah we had to queue but it says wait time 60 minutes and it's probably more like 40. Rise of Resistance is great!!
Genie+ allows you to skip the lines by booking a return slot for each ride. It cost 15 dollars a person each day. There is one ride at each disney park that is not included, rise of the resistance is one of them but u can pay separately for it again I think 15 dollars each. So for a family of 4 genie+ is 60 dollars +tax then rise of the resistance 60 dollars +tax, gets very expensive. We didn't stay on disney so got in at normal opening and queued about 70 minutes
It's a pass that allows you to cut the line.
