Do you need a Id to see a rated R movie or is there a certain age

I've never been carded unless you get alchohol, but 10 and under they will not admit to a rated R even with an adult present

If you obviously are over 17, they might not card you. But everyone else, yes they will ask for an ID. You must be at least 21 to purchase tickets for anyone younger than 17. Anyone under 6 years old will not be allowed into the R-rater movie.
