Can you get on rides if you're wearing a backpack? & This is my first time since a kid... now taking my own. I got the fast passes, but I don't understand people talking about tickets. Does the band cover everything including rides?

Yes to the backpack, and your magic band should have your ticket linked to it already if you're staying at a Disney Resort.
