I know some parks have an Iron Ranger which is for paying on the off-season. I would check signage at the park to see if it's acceptable not to pay. Last I checked, if you didn't pay the Iron Ranger and were caught you could get a trespassing fine.
Also, if you are over 65 it is free all year long and if you are disabled and have an America the Beautiful pass which is a national park pass, New Hampshire state parks recognize that because they don't have a disability program of their own. So if you have one of those it's free all year long too. Except for the camping you still have to pay for that.
Rode there last weekend and no collector present. So free!
